Chemours Teflon™ Industrial Coatings

(Previously DuPont Teflon® industrial coatings. Chemours is a spin-off of DuPont).

A DuPont Chemist named Roy Plunkett discovered Teflon™ PTFE fluoropolymer resin in 1938. Since that time Chemours Company (formerly DuPont) has developed many versions of Teflon industrial coatings that include PTFE, PFA, FEP, & ETFE (also known as Tefzel®). As a result of the versatility of these fluoropolymers, Teflon industrial coatings have gained acceptance in a wide range of applications and are specified in many company and MIL specifications. Matrix Coatings is an experienced Teflon coating company. We have most Teflon coatings in stock, allowing us to offer quick turnaround times to our customers.

Matrix Coatings Corp. is a Chemours Licensed Industrial Applicator (LIA) of Teflon industrial coatings and the ONLY LIA in the state of Florida. This is important to consider because only coaters licensed by Chemours can apply Teflon industrial coatings. As a Licensed Industrial Applicator, we are considered by Chemours to be an elite Teflon coating company that has extensive knowledge of Teflon industrial coatings and highly qualified and experienced in recommending and applying coatings. Whether you are ready to start a new project or are interested in Teflon recoating, contact us to learn how Matrix Coatings Corp can satisfy your Teflon coating requirements.

The values shown in this table represent average experiences from numerous testing sources and are not intended to be specifications. These values will vary depending upon the individual compositions fo the primers and topcoats and the systems used. For further information on the properties of these coating systems, please contact Matrix Coatings.

Teflon industrial fluoropolymer coatings offered by The Chemours Company provide the following outstanding properties:

Very few solid substances will permanently adhere, and the few tacky substances that do show adhesion will easily release.

Low Coefficient of Friction

The coefficient of friction of fluoropolymer coatings is in the range of 0.05 to 0.20, depending on the load, sliding speed and particular fluoropolymer utilized.

Heat Resistance

Teflon Fluoropolymer coatings can operate continuously at temperatures up to 550°F/290°C and can be used intermittently to 600°F/315°C with adequate ventilation.

Since Teflon coated surfaces are both oleophobic and hydrophobic, they are not readily wet. Cleanup is easier and more thorough and in many cases coatings are “self-cleaning”.

Chemical Resistance

Teflon coatings are normally unaffected by chemical environments and are great anti-corrosion coatings. The only known chemicals that affect all fluoropolymer coatings are molten alkali metals and highly reactive fluorinating agents.

Unique Electrical Properties

Over a wide range of frequencies Teflon fluoropolymers have high dielectric strength (typically 2000 V/mil), low dissipation factor and very high surface resistivity. Some coatings can even be made electroconductive enough to be used as an anti-static coating.

Cryogenic Stability

Many Teflon fluoropolymer coatings withstand severe temperature extremes without loss of physical properties, as low as -454°F/-270°C.
